Today, on the 10th International Yoga Day (IYD), I embarked on two intertwined journeys: deepening my yoga practice and beginning to write about this transformative experience. As I reflect on the paths I've walked and the asanas I've explored, I feel an overwhelming urge to share my story. Writing about my yoga journey feels like a natural extension of my practice, a way to document and deepen my understanding.

Why I Chose to Write Today
It’s a day when people around the world come together to celebrate the essence of yoga. Inspired by this collective energy, I felt it was the perfect moment to start writing about my own experiences. Sharing my journey on this day connects me with a global community of yogis, each on their own unique path. I took a pledge today “To make Yoga and Integral Part of my Daily Life” on the Ministry of Ayush website. This year marks the 10th International Day of Yoga with the theme “Yoga for Self and Society.” Yoga, a transformative practice, represents the harmony of mind and body, the balance between thought and action, and the unity of restraint and fulfilment.
My Yoga Journey So Far
When I decided to take a sabbatical from my work, Yoga was something I had never imagined that I would want to dive deep into. However, a random journey of doing a Yoga TTC made me realize that the journey was not about becoming a teacher instead was an experience of a lifetime that made me want to become a student. It made me unlearn my life and relearn it all together only this time with more awareness. And now I wanted to learn more in order to pass on this knowledge with complete dedication and knowledge. It became a journey inward, a path to self-discovery and inner peace.
I've experienced moments of profound clarity on my mat, times when the mind quiets and the heart speaks. These instances are fleeting yet powerful, encouraging me to continue my practice with dedication and openness. Each session brings new insights, whether it's about my body’s capabilities or the emotions I uncover through mindful movement.
The Decision to Write
Writing about my yoga journey felt like a natural next step. Yoga has given me so much, and I want to give back by sharing my experiences, lessons learned, and moments of growth. There’s a vulnerability in writing, much like in yoga, where you open yourself up to new possibilities and understandings. Through my writing, I hope to inspire others, offer support, and perhaps create a space where fellow yogis can share their stories.
The Process of Writing
Today, I sat down with my notes. The writing left me feeling centered and inspired. I started by jotting down my thoughts, the moments of struggle, the moments of calm, and the insights gained.
As I wrote, I noticed parallels between yoga and writing. Both require patience, presence, and a willingness to explore. Just as in yoga, where you might hold a pose longer to deepen your experience, in writing, you linger on thoughts and emotions, allowing them to unfold fully.
Reflections and Goals
Writing about my yoga journey on this special day has been a reflective and enriching experience. It has allowed me to articulate my thoughts and emotions, giving them form and substance. This practice of writing feels like a meditation in itself, a way to process and understand my yoga experiences on a deeper level.
Going forward, I plan to make this writing a regular part of my routine. Just as I roll out my mat each day, I will also open my journal, ready to capture the ebb and flow of my yoga journey. I hope to explore various themes: the physical challenges, the mental shifts, the spiritual awakenings, and the day-to-day practice that keeps me grounded.
On this International Yoga Day, I’ve taken a significant step not just in my yoga practice but also in how I engage with it through writing. I feel a sense of excitement and purpose, knowing that this journey will continue to unfold in both my practice and my words.
By sharing my story, I hope to connect with others, inspire beginners, and contribute to the beautiful tapestry of yoga narratives around the world. Here’s to many more poses, breaths, and words.
Namaste.
I know little to nothing about yoga. But I know my friend Deepa. She is amazing and I’m here to support her. 😊
